Sochi 2014 launches new Paralympic Games emblem on Russia's first ever International Paralympic Winter Day
On Dec 12 Sochi 2014 officially presented its new Paralympic brand and emblem at a press conference followed by a major event in Red Square to celebrate Russia's first ever International Paralympic Winter Day.
The President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Sir Phillip Craven, joined Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Alexander Zhukov; Sochi 2014 President and CEO Dmitry Chernyshenko; Mayor of Moscow, Yury Luzhkov; Russian Federation Commissioner for Human Rights and President of the Russian Paralympic Committee, Vladimir Lukin and United Nations Special Advisor on Sport for Development and Peace Wilfried Lemke; in Russia to take part in the brand launch and Paralympic Winter Day celebrations.
The new emblem for the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games follows the same typography as the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games emblem unveiled to the world on 1 December, and incorporates the Paralympic Symbol, the three Agitos in red, blue and green, symbolizing the fact that Paralympic athletes are constantly inspiring and exciting the world with their performances - always moving forward and never giving up.

Bosco Sport becomes General Partner for Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games
On Oct 28, 2009 the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee announced that Bosco Sport, the Russian sportswear brand, had been awarded General Partner status for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the Sochi 2014 Apparel category. The deal, worth over $100 mln, grants Bosco Sport the following official status:
• Exclusive Outfitter of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic teams (at Vancouver 2010, London 2012, Sochi 2014 and Rio de Janeiro 2016) and General Partner of the Russian Olympic and Paralympic teams (in respect to each team at the 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2016 Games)
• General Partner of the XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014 and XI Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi
Bosco Sport also signed the licensing agreement with the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee according to which Bosco Sport becomes official producer of licensed apparel with the Olympic symbols for the period up to and including 2016.
The status of General Partner gives the Company the right to use the symbols of the XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games, as well as symbols of the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees on the territory of Russia. Bosco Sport also gains the right to use Olympians in the activation of its marketing and commercial programs.

The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee congratulates the cross-country skiers, Nikita Kriukov and Alexander Panzhinskiy, who won Russia’s first gold and silver medals of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics in the Individual Sprint Classic discipline. Russia has been anxiously waiting for these medals. With this win, the athletes have proved that the Russian school of cross-country skiing is one of the strongest in the world. The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee wishes to congratulate Ivan Skobrev, and all Russian fans, with his bronze medal in the 5000 meter Speed Skating event. WWF-Russia position on Olympic Games in Sochi - 2014
"We’re proud that Russia is the Olympic candidate winner but at the same time we will do our best to ensure that construction works do not destroy the environment”, says Igor Chestin, WWF-Russia CEO.
WWF believes that mountain wilderness areas in the Caucasus must be protected when developing new facilities for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. However, some plans pose a serious threat to the environment.
WWF is especially concerned about the future of one of the most valuable natural areas within the Sochi national park, the Grushevyi Ridge and river Pslukh watershed, the projected site of the bobsleigh and luge track and mountain Olympic village. Besides being located within the boundaries of Sochi National Park, this area is also part of the buffer zone of the World Heritage Site ‘Western Caucasus’ and Russia is internationally responsible for its conservation.
Construction works in this part of Sochi national park (the buffer zone of the World Heritage Site) will lead to forest logging and destruction of habitats and migratory routes of endangered species, with negative effect going far beyond the construction site itself. The death of 21-year-old Georgian bobsleist Kumaritashvili Nodar, who died a few hours before the opening of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver during a workout, shocked the world. The 2014 Olympic Winter Games bid election was held July 4, 2007 at the 119th IOC session in Guatemala City, Guatemala and was won by Sochi, Russia after defeating PyeongChang, South Korea on the second ballot and Salzburg Austria on the first. It was possibly the tightest Olympic bid election in history - and on the heels of an over-exuberant 2012 election where the bids took notes - the cities pulled out every stop and campaigned with high-profile dignitaries and lavish presentations. It was the first election where the national leaders for each bid presented.
Other applicants that didn't make the short list were Almaty Kazakhstan, Borjomi Georgia, Jaca Spain and Sofia Bulgaria. Almaty narrowly missed the cut after straddling the benchmark they need to pass to automatically qulaify. The IOC executive committee voted to exclude the bid from the list of finalists.

The 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be the first time that the Russian Federation will have hosted the Winter Games; the Soviet Union hosted the 1980 Summer Games in Moscow. The host city Sochi has a population of 400,000 people and is situated in Krasnodar, which is the third largest region in Russia.
The Games will be organised in two clusters: a coastal cluster for ice events in Sochi, and a mountain cluster located in the Krasnaya Polyana Mountains. This will make it one of the most compact Games ever, with around 30 minutes travel time from the coastal to mountain cluster.

Наш опыт в Ванкувере 2010 и прогнозы для российского Сочи
На видео пресс конференции: канадский Ванкувер - Россия - Москва 18 февраля 2010 г. не было ни вопросов о нехватке олимпийских медалей ни почему "спортивное счастье" не смотрит в сторону нашей, Российской сборной. Но все таки было сложно предсказуемым - а именно о погоде на олимпийских трассах. Все понятно, что из-за дождей, а так же плохой видимости и нехватки снега устроители зимней Олимпиады были вынуждены переписывать расписание соревнований горнолыжников в канадском Уистлере. Учитывая, что погодные условия в горных районах канадского Ванкувера и российского Сочи вполне похожи, не повторятся ли современные неприятные сюрпризы на I-ой зимней отечественной Олимпиаде в 2004 году? Это волновало участников видео моста как и в Ванкувере, так и в самой Москве.
